The short answer is no. In fact, room temperature is the ideal environment for FFPE storage and transport. The fixation process, which uses formalin to cross-link proteins, renders the tissue stable at ambient conditions. Unlike fresh tissue, which degrades rapidly due to autolysis and bacterial growth, or frozen tissue, which thaws and rots, an FFPE block is inert. The paraffin wax acts as a physical barrier against oxygen and moisture, effectively pausing the biological clock.
